Catching up - Bloomberg wants F Express

One of the items we missed from early in August was this piece from the Brooklyn Paper about the oft-discussed F Express. This time around, Bloomberg is voicing support for the F Express as part of a larger plan to ease commutes that would include expanding service to underserved neighborhoods like Red Hook and Greenpoint.
Express trains could stop at currently an unused platform at Bergen Street beneath the existing one, but they would skip Carroll Street, Smith-Ninth Streets and Fourth Avenue before stopping again at Seventh Avenue in Park Slope. From there, they would bypass the Prospect Park and Fort Hamilton Parkway stations en route to Church Avenue in Kensington. (read more)
As a former user of the Church Ave stop but recent emigrant to the Fort Hamilton stop, I vehemently oppose this move for reasons that are in no way selfish.

So what are your reasons

He'll tell you when he pulls his tongue from his cheek. F Express, (read the Ron Lopez blog for the rich history...but really read it anyway,) would be a welcome return to our neighborhood.

Rosesman,

Thank you for the kind words.

Yes, the F-Express was my own "Silver Streak" to the "Big City" back when platform shoes were "in" and Nixon was checking "out" of that big White House back in the 70's.

And yes Denny's actually served steak back then too.

But now with my hair all a grey and my old platform shoes recycled into Con Edison cones, I suffer every day on a long boring ride on the F local. Knowing that a long time ago in a galaxy far far away there was once an F-Express that probably took 15 minutes off my ride to the city.

Oh, well by the time they get it running again I'll probably be retired from work, but maybe my son will enjoy it ten years from now.

Read: ELO, Queen and the F-Express.

Hi. First of all, welcome back. I was really missing the blog this summer and was getting worried. Sorry about the burglary, congrats on the wedding.
Regarding F-express: I also live on the Fort Hamilton stop but I don't care, I will walk 5 minutes longer to Church Ave but skip some stops on the way to the city. I just don't think that the F should stop at Bergen Street. Unless it has to because it is the only chance to transfer to the G? I guess they would have to re-run the G anyway since it is in the way of the F-express, and so is the damn V-train.
I just worry this is only one of Bloomberg's moves to get re-elected. I got a mailing recently from the Bloomberg campaign about how the public transport sucks and how he wants to fix it. Hello? What have you done for the last 8 years?
For now, I am enjoying the G-train run till Church Ave.

If the G and V run on the local track, and the F runs express, overall it'll still shave time and ease congestion.

I hate to say it but even if this is an election ploy to make us forget about his term-limits roundabout.... "well played, sir".

The man usually delivers what he promises. And he is up for a 3rd term, which is more than even Giuliani could manage.

I use the Fort Hamilton stop as well. But my main issue with the F is delays due to congestion, crowds due to delays. If the F starts running express I am sure that would help.

Also my understanding is that some F's would run express and others local. Half the time I end up at Church anyway because my F which has been stuck in traffic for an hour is suddenly going express.

Yes to F EXPRESS!
I'd vote for Bush again if he promised the F would run express... OK, no I wouldn't, but I really really really want the F to run express!

When I was in college in Brooklyn Heights the Express did run. It was Church Avenue, Seventh Avenue, Bergen (lower platform), Jay Street. Took 10 minutes. Was great when I was out all night and had to make it to class with minutes to go.

If the F ran express it would make my life so much easier. 18th Ave stop to downtown Brooklyn in what, 5 stops? That would be amazing.
