Brunch: Now we're talkin'

So Visions just sent us an email letting us know about their new brunch special. UNLIMITED bloody marys, mimosas and bellinis! Finally I don't have to go to Park Slope or downtown to get soused early on the weekends.

From Visions:
Visions restaurant & bar invites you to join us every Saturday and Sunday from 11 am till 4pm unlimited mimosa, bloody mary or bellini with any of your choices from our brunch menu.
Visions restaurant & bar 752 Coney island ave @ Cortelyou Rd, Brooklyn, NY 11226 718-282-3388
I've heard the brunch food is good too, but hadn't tried it myself because of the [previously] expensive cocktails. Has anyone had brunch there yet?

kensington blog, this is good info, but have you lost your zest? what happened to the zillion commenters? your lack of postings has slowed down interest in the blog perhaps? Don't know but maybe you should bring back the series Jen started of the clams on Ocean Parkway.

Do the drinks have alcohol in them?

Changing the URL i.e. no longer kensingtonbrooklyn.blogspot etc... without telling anyone probably did not help.

I agree-

something has been missing of late. Perhaps its a shared responsibility- I dunno. Maybe some added control, so other can post topics etc. Perhaps a forum type structure?

I think the layout is great though- so no change needed there. Just additions.

Going to the old url redirects here. So that's not it.

It didn't auto-redirect on day one. Might have thrown some people off, and they never checked back.

Personally, I think it's because there's hardly ever anything on this blog anymore. It's too bad. There have been lots of references to Kensington I've seen in various articles, newspapers, magazines, and they fail to make it here. Just a couple weeks ago was an article about a Kensington woman in the NYTimes Sunday Magazine. Sure, maybe it's not "news" about Kensington, but it's good to add exposure. Lately, I've to get my news from Ditmas Park Blog about happenings in the area.

The three-month-old Kensington Area Resident/Merchant Alliance (KARMABrooklyn) has a blog with a calendar at karmabrooklyn.blogspot.com that lists events.

If you want to see the events that are scheduled for future months, click on the down arrow in the upper left corner next to the month and year, click on the double right arrow ( >> ), and click on any date.

They didn't make it on here because the people who saw it (like you) didn't let us know about it. We've always posted *most* of what people send in, the lack of posts now still reflects that. As for the lack of original posts lately, we're just busy and maybe a bit uninspired. Steve is about to get married and has his mind on all that stuff. As for me, I'm just lazy.

And for the record, the site forwarding works as long as Blogger itself is working. It was tested all day long when we launched the new URL over 6 months ago and this is the first we've heard of any problems. Both URLs continue to work perfectly well.

If you have any news, please send it in. We'll even take full posts. Several people have agreed to write "spotlight" pieces over the last few months, but nobody hands in their homework. Keep commenting though, we love our backseat bloggers. :)

Yeah. What he said.

Jake: Actually I did. At least a couple times, I sent stories to the blogger and they were never posted. So I didn't really think sending another would make it either.

Does anyone know if the brunch drinks at Visions are any good?

You've emailed us twice.

You sent us an email about the timeoutNY article on May 8. In case you missed our post about that, http://kensingtonbrooklynblog.com/2009/05/kensington-in-tony-reporter-is-jerk.html
We even replied to your email about this one and told you we were posting it.

You sent us a link to another blog on December 9. We generally don't re-blog unless it's vital. This had minimal Kensington content.

Gmail search is sweet. Keep 'em coming.

Well, I write a blog, I know what it entails, and it does take some inspiration but maybe you all need to figure out what direction taking the blog in would inspire YOU! Is it the neighborhood? Jen, in the beginning, had a lot of zest and it's sort of the way you write it and the way you approach it that makes a huge difference I think.

Plus you can expand it somewhat outside of Kensington... find something that you're interested in that makes sense that's connected. Or profile people who live in Kensington. Maybe talk to NY City Council Member Bill deBlasio whose office is right here. Steve diBrienza right next door former City Council person. There seem to be lots of interesting people. What about interviewing the folks who opened Oak & Iris? Sean Casey ? ...

But really I think it comes down to what makes YOU want to write. It's great if you can have guest writers (Louise Crawford at Only the Blog Knows Brooklyn has had her blog forever and just started having guest writers but it doesn't get solidified overnight) but I think the foundation has to come from you or you all.

I don't remember a link to a blog unless it's Brooklyn Based blog. Which I really don't see why that's deemed unusable. Ditmas Park blog writes and links to various things that don't have to do with the technical borders of Ditmas Park, but may be of interest to those who could be of walking distance of them. In any case, they include plenty of posts within the borders as well.

Yes, gmail search is sweet. You left out one I sent regarding 2 links to stories in the NYTimes regarding what 2 Kensington residents do.

I'm sincerely sorry you feel a need to cross-examine on what I sent, how many, and if it's "good enough" to put on the blog. Which is how it's coming across. I'm happy to bow out of this argument. You've won.

Try and not take any of this personally. I think the "Cross-examination" took place because of genuine shock at the implication that we ignore emails from you. I'm sorry if you are hurt that we didn't post your December article, but the reality is, it had basically nothing to do with Kensington. It was a Slice of Life article about a couple who lives on Ocean Avenue. They mentioned in passing that they walk to Kensington.

Now, further up in this thread you mentioned that you have seen several Kensington-related items in the past, and when asked why you hadn't sent them in you sort of implied that it was because you've sent us numerous things that were all ignored. That simply isn't the case, as we discovered when we went a-searchin'.

Mela, Jake also just informed me via text message that he would like to smooth this whole thing over with you over a round of darts at Denny's. Winner takes blog. Deal?

Cat, thanks for the words of encouragement.

thelisbonplane, I'm sure they're terrible champagne poured into Foodtown OJ, but you can't argue with a bottomless glass.

To readership at large: please continue to bear with us. As Jake mentioned, I am trying to get married here in a couple weeks and those of you that have gone through planning and executing large scale events like that know how much time and energy that can suck from you. Jake is also dealing with a rapidly worsening and very specific case of Hoof-and-Mouth disease that attacks those areas of the brain which aid in creating frequent, high-quality content for blogs. Our hope is that a cure can be found before we're forced to sell our remaining assets to Gothamist in order to cover his sanitarium costs.

Please continue to send stuff in. We will continue to post it.

Perpetual confinement- congrats!

Darts for blog? Ha! I'm up the block from Denny's. If this takes place- invite.

Lets stop being lames and keep things trucking.
