City seeks ‘stable-izing’ effect in KensingtonSo it seems like the folks at Community Board 7 have scored a pretty major victory for people who want to see a limit on building heights in this 8-block area. Apparently large-scale development has been spooking the horses at the stables. Then again, maybe they just need to teach their horses to not be so scared all the time. Maybe some sort of alfalfa-based hypnosis regimen.

Won't someone please think of the horses?

I'm sure a lot of things spook the horses. I remember several years back, walking in Prospect Park and seeing a horse galloping w/o a rider past me about 20 yards away. 30 seconds later someone running much slower was headed in the same direction. Idiot. I was afraid the horse would get hit by a car and/or trample someone. I don't know how it ended. I feel sorry for the horses that have to live in that really run down stable not far from the Prospect Expressway. Horses don't belong in the city.
I've seen horses get spooked by barking dogs in PP
I've also been very uncomfortable with the horses from that stable having to walk across the circle to get to the park. The other day a horse started freaking out in the middle of traffic at the circle. The rider had to jump off to try to control the horse. I don't feel that it's an appropriate environment for these creatures at all and would love for the stable to be moved to a safer location. The stable is, as notthishouse mentions, also very run down! Also, I can only imagine how all the construction sounds have frightened them in the past few months.
