From Andrea @ Local birding:
Falafel fusion is out of business. Saw a "for rent" sign on the gate today. So bummed!! They had the best food.
The food here was pretty good in our opinion, and they put some effort into branding and menus, etc. It's a shame to see it go, when plenty of inferior restaurants seem to just keep chugging along. Let's hope something decent takes its place!

What??? That place was the best!
Btw did you notice the big 99-cent store on Church (next to Church Ave Food Corp) is done? Is that where the fabled movie theater once was? Hopefully something cool will come.
Ugh, that sucks. Good falafel, but I guess that's what you get for not being open after the sun goes down and during every observance.
Nothing wrong with that, just not the way to build a customer base (see O&I staying open way beyond profitable hours and during their own observances).
Gyro King it is. This war is over before the poll even went up.
Oh, can we talk about Basmati soon? You know, the new "Clay Pot Tandoori" play opening on Church and E 3rd? If it's actual good Indian or some close off-shoot, things are looking up.
Gyro King is decent, but to be honest I prefer the truck near the station! I had a gyro and a pita at GK and the pita collapsed with both.
i just ate at falafel fusion on thursday. it was great. should i be concerned? they were one of the only joints open on turkey day.
foe excellent kosher falafel and shwarma (turkey based) try my favorite restaurant in the nabe: Famous Pita! theyre located on Coney Island and Newkirk. I know its a bit outta the way, but its really worth it.
but like i said theyre kosher, so no saturday brunches people.
What! I just ate there last week. Go there a few times a month.
Famous has gotten way expensive since their move down the block, and FF was right around the corner from me.
Say it isn't so!
very true, famous is expensive, like $11 for a shwarma and falafel/salad bar.
over 20 bucks for 2 for fast food lunch is asking a lot.
if theyd only consider being open saturdays..........
I would take credit for the closing of Estelles, but not Falafel Fusion.
Falafel Fusion could have been okay but sometimes you want something besides a falafel and they didn't have anything else. Gyro King has schwarmas and gyros- so I expected them to win just for that.
The new falafel place on McDonald and Church (don't remember the name) is great.
Oh right, I guess it's the place ness800 is talking about, Gyro King. Dur.
Falafel fusion was great! Maybe they could've used a few more "entrees", but their salads were excellent, especially the jerusalem-style potato salad. Also, their chef, who's also a bass player, turned me on to some killer israeli rock and club music (as well as Galgalaz, an Israel radio station which has our college radio station beat hands down for alt/indie music). Anyway, sad day for kensington with culinary offerings so few and far between. I've eaten at gyro king twice and its filling fare but boring.
can we have a poll on which is the next business to close?
FF had lots of stuff. those spinach things....? oh man that stuff was good. R.I.P.
