From Control Geek:I was waiting for the F subway at 15th Street/Prospect Park Brooklyn this morning and a brand new train came in! Apparently they were testing it, it had the automated announcements and everything: To keep people from boarding, they were opening the doors on the wrong side. (More, including pictures)
This is a little old, but it's news to me. Apparently they've been testing these on occasion for a little while now. They have the automated announcements and light-up maps and the whole shebang. Anyone else seen these or have any more info?

If those are the same trains as the new Q trains, then they look nicer than they are. Yes, they are smoother and quieter and cleaner (often), but there are fewer seats and the electronic signs rarely show the correct information.
But I do like new fancy things....
Yeah, I saw them testing what looked like the new R-160 (the same trains they're running on the M line) on the F a few weeks ago during one of their "no trains at Fort Hamilton, 15th Avenue or 7th Avenue, walk to Church instead" weekends. I like them on the M line - the electronic sign boards are higher tech than the ones on the 4 and 2 ilnes, so they update automatically instead of just saying "thuis route map is not in use."
I'd love to get the whole shebang that they have on the L line, with the signboards at each station showing when the next train will come.
They are nicer in some respects I guess but I strongly prefer the variety of human conductors instead of that lame robot voice
My only problem is they seem to hold fewer people
The MTA really needs to raise prices in order to reduce ridership so that people who actually have to go to work can get there and back without dealing with these ridiculous crowds.
