WOW! We just got this and are pretty alarmed. Anyone else know more?
Last night around 2:30am there was an argument between a group of people on McDonald, directly across from Foodtown and a group of individuals in a car. At once, there was one gunshot. More yelling and then the car peeled out, down Albemarle. It was overheard that the car, a white escalade, had Conneticut plates. Cops arrived within two minutes of the 911 call. It appears the victim was only shot in the arm.

I heard Trader Joe was scoping out the hood and some Starbuck hadta get up in their grill, all, "This is our scruffy, gradually gentrifying neighborhood, you punk ass two-buck chuck sellin' bitch" and then Trader J, cool as the other side of the pillow, busted a cap in starbuck's ass.
That's how we roll in K-Town.
I lived in Kensington and I was burglarized twice. TWICE. The second time it took an hour for the cops to come to my apartment. Why? Because someone had been shot point blank in the chest on Ditmas and McDonald ave.
Kensington is not as "safe" as you seem to think it is.
i must be living in la-la land because i feel pretty safe near OP and church.
but then again im male and rarely wander around on foot after dark.
i only worry about the cars.
sounds like a Springsteen song, was their trouble between the black and white.. MY hometown.. OHHH my hometown
I heard arguing around that time on Church Ave about a block away. I'm certain it was related, but I didn't hear the gunshot.
A friend of mine who lived on Church, near MacDonald for a year, used to sing accolades about the area. I didn't hear from her for several months, and when we did finally meet again she told me that she had moved from the area: she had been mugged close to her apartment. The cops arrested the youth who had jumped her because she was blond and assumed she was Russian and either spoke no English or had visa problems. She said that it happened because she was so settled here and never even thought something like that could happen to her. Kensington is still patchy at best but it's not safe. I was sorry to see my friend go, but at least she's still in Brooklyn!
LOL, Laika--I appreciate your wit.
been here for 30 yers never had a problem
"Kensington is not as "safe" as you seem to think it is."
yeah i agree. the gang graffiti that goes up just about everyday should be a clue to that.
the recent crime issue of new york magazine had a map of the city and crimes to it. from january 1 to decemeber 23 2007 Kensington had 7 murders, 26 rapes, 468 robberies, 461 assaults, 466 burglaries.
Crime in the city overall has gone down but in brooklyn it has gone up.
Hedley Lamarr: Qualifications?
Applicant: Rape, murder, arson, and rape.
Hedley Lamarr: You said rape twice.
Applicant: I like rape.
chris - I don't think they are getting the Mel Brooks reference.
Well Kids,
I hate to make you all feel safer, but the map that New York Magazine shows is incorrect.
The area they show as "Kensington" is actually the boundaries of the 70th Pct., not the 66 Pct. which
basically eats up about 95 percent of Kensington.
In fact, according to the 66 stats we had ZERO murders last year and much lower robberies, rapes, etc. FYI, Park Slope had ONE murder.
Here is the link.

Now unlock your window again and let that guy without the Con Ed ID in your house.

A victim was whacked in the head with a bat--not a gunshot to the arm, though it sounded like it. Thankfully he is going to recover.
I heard laika was outside of foodtown telling jokes and the mob turned on her
i witnessed the event and am quite sure that it was a gunshot. not a bat...
it did not seem like a random act of violence, rather there was an argument that elevated to a terrible level. about two months ago, in the foodtown parking lot, i witnessed a man get mugged.
i know all of this can happen anywhere, its just that now Kensington isn't projecting the stigma we had all impressed upon it.
I think it started when someone was all like, nah hillary 08 and the other dude was like no way obama 08
and then the guy in the esclade rolled up and yelled out the window
McCain 08, so they shot him.
At least thats the word on the street.
Chris stop taxing Laika's gig. El queso está viejo y pútrido.
Its upsetting, hope the victim is ok, but honestly, violent crimes can happen anywhere. I guess the key is to be on your guard where ever you go. Look at what happened to that poor woman on the upper east side. Look out for yourself and your neighbors.
I thought I felt something nipping at my ankles, Steve. Nice to see you, shame you bring your usual nothing to contribute.
"Shooting" NOT TRUE! The incident which occured across from the Foodtown two weeks ago was actually an argument at 2:30am. One of the people in a passing car pushed one of the people walking on the sidewalk, and that person hit their head. He is fine. The question is, what was really going on at the corner 2:30 in the morning.
