Marty Promotes Cortelyou CT Muffin

Above you'll see a poorly lit photo of Marty Markowitz's letter to Yasser Abdelhadi the propetier of Connecticut Muffin. The letter is basically Marty promoting the new CT Muffin and the Victorian Flatbush community it will reside in. Although I see it as well intentioned I'm just kind of wondering why it was mailed to me and some of my neighbors. Don't get me wrong I'm generally a huge fan of Marty but the whole thing struck me as a little odd. Does Marty always send out letters promoting new business in Brooklyn communities? Call me crazy but I didn't get a letter promoting the now defunct hardware store that opened on Church Ave a few weeks back... Why was CT Muffin given his stamp of approval? Did anyone else get the letter and have the same thought? Just putting it out there....

Did the letter actually come from Marty's office, or did CT Muffin send it themselves? A letter from an elected official (probably written by a staffer) to a new business in his area seems pretty standard to me, much like all those official proclamations recognizing some restaurant's 10th anniversary. Using government money to send out an ad for a new store is not so common -- or proper, or maybe even legal -- which is why I suspect CT Muffin paid the postage on this.

I'm curious why you like Marty. ?!

his atlantic yards' stance and cheerleading is not akin to keeping brooklyn brooklyn. and I find him quite annoying in general.

but i agree with previous poster - although I assume you are writing this because it came addressed from brooklyn borough president's office...

I'm a Kensington resident, and it's been a few weeks since I've walked along Cortelyou Road. However, last night, my husband and I took a friend to dinner at the Farm on Adderley, and I was delighted to see the "Connecticut Muffin shop coming soon" posted on the storefront next door.

I don't know if this makes me a bad, un-PC person or not, but I do know that I love Connecticut Muffin's cherries & berries muffins. And even though it's a chain, it's a local chain--not Dunkin' Donuts. When I lived in Park Slope, I would go to CM, and I've also been to the one in Windsor Terrace.

I've seen other bloggers on other sites saying CM won't harm the business at Vox Pop, and I agree. Call me a cockeyed optimist, but I like to think they'll be good for each other's businesses, and good for Kensington.
