Kensington Sign-age

Over on one of those blocks past Dahill. Do we still have the Civilian Observation Patrol?

I'm not sure, but I'd imagine it's one of those things that just means "if you do something bad, someone is probably going to see you... and they might call the police." I love the '80s reference to Police Academy 4: Citizens On Patrol

they have a thing like that except it says "welcome to kensington village" somewhere on ditmas avenue. i think, east 3rd. but um, there's this huge lot on 18th avenue and east 2nd(?) and every morning, there's apparently a truck on watch and it's in that lot. the truck also says "brooklyn public library" on it so i may be wrong. but somewhere on the fence, it says something about neighborhood watch... :)

PS. i still can't believe someone has so much pride in Kensington. I was really beginning to think I was alone on this one.

Those signs might date back to the 1970s. Back then there was a civic group in the neighborhood called the Kensington Flatbush Preservation Association or KPFA for short. I may even have an old newsletter somewhere.

That group may have been behind putting up the signs. There may be other similar signs scattered around the area.
