Thai Tonys on Fort Hamilton

Though it's still in the construction phase we spoke to (who we think may be) an owner recently who said the new Thai restuarant on Fort Hamilton will include indoor and outdoor seating. I'm not sure about opening dates or menus but the sign went up today!

On a side note it looks like the hair salon next door to Thai Tonys also got a floor recently. We're not too sure what's happening w the space neighboring the hair salon since the 'For Rent' sign is still up yet our calls on rent price went unanswered.

I am sooooooo excited!!! YAY!

me too! where on Fort Hamilton is this?

I believe it's like 1311 or 1309 b/w E2nd and E3rd Streets.

We have one Thai place near us on McDonald, and two pizza places, and crappy Chinese food. I wish in my heart this were something different, just for variety sake.

The fact that it's a sit-down restaurant makes it different, in my opinion!

this IS exciting! i'll take a thai place over a 99cent store or a cell phone place any day!

It looks much more chichi than AM Thai, so I'm sure this is going to be very different (and a little better).

By the way, I tried delivery from the Chikurin chain (out in midwood)... friendly and nice, but not as good as Sango Sushi in my opinion. But alright. Wish there were Japanese sit down in Kensington. But hey, this is progress with Thai Tony's... I never walk out that way, so I'm glad this blog reports on the things I'm missing!

Can we start a section of this blog with scanned-in delivery menus? I've never heard of either Chikurin or Sango Sushi, but would love to try 'em. My favorite sushi (though it's less friendly on the wallet) is Sushi Yama in WT.. quick delivery to Church Ave. And No #1 Chinese and Sushi on Ditmas ave is verrrry cheap but (not surprisingly) not that good either.

Also, how about a list of local restaurants to patronize, with addresses and phone numbers and recommended dishes? Hmm... in a way I've informally started that on my blog

By the way...
Sango Sushi
1708 E 16th St (near Kings Highway)
718-336-3811

Yammy roll is good (sorry forgot what's in it). As is their beef negimaki appetizer.

Also:
Friendly's Chinese
126 Church Ave.
18-854-8500

Has decent crab rangoon (ok, fake crab and fried, but better than the others I've tried from other places). Get shrimp chow fun too.

Well, I know tastes are personal, but anyone who's adventurous or looking for other ideas.

My default option is AM Thai,
359 McDonald Ave (across from supermarket)
718-871-9115

Favorite dishes include drunken man noodles, penang curry, and their tofu/eggplant/basil dish. Also, they have great lunch specials if you happen to be around on a weekday.

Sushi Yama, Sushi Yu, and Fez (never actually had food from here but it sounds good) all have menus on www.menupages.com - search by name or look under Park Slope.

AMThai used to be so good and it's been going downhill for the last two years. I hope Thai Tony's gives them the competition they need to boost the quality and quantity of their food back to where it used to be.

Fez is a Moroccan Restaurant on PPW and it is DELISH. There is also an outside area in the back.
Very small, waitress is very sweet and I highly recommend the chicken cous cous!

Problem is with Fez that they don't deliver to Kensington but trekking 2 stops is well worth it!

Glad to know about Fez.. but .. that's practically in Park Sope! I can list a zillion restaurants if we're listing that far.

On the sushi note, i have found kiku to be better than sushi yama.
Kiku
718-369-1155
Also kiku never gives me a problem about delivering to kensington (the delivery is by car), whereas sushi yama sometimes seems confused about whether they will deliver to me :).

Elora's mexican place on PPW delivers to our neighborhood too. Its pretty good.

I once got Fez to deliver to CHurch/McDonald. Like the poster above mentioned with Sushi Yama, whether Fez will deliver out here does seem to depend on who is answering the phone..

.I like Yummy Taco's vegetarian burrito. Joe and Joe's makes good entrees.Portions are huge and can easily feed two people. We are partial to the sauteed chicken breast w/ artichoke hearts.
Of course, we get it both of these to go as the restaurants are lacking atmosphere( to say the least!.
Ambrosia is supposedly going to fix the brick oven and start serving brick oven pizza again soon. That is what the owner told me anyway.
The best place for an all around good breakfast would have to be Faros on Church just west of McDonald.

Speaking of deliveries-I live on ave c and east 4th and have been trying to get Fresh Direct to deliver here for the past couple years. I cornered a Fresh Direct driver the other day in front of 303 Beverly Road, 1 block away and asked why Fresh Direct doesn't deliver to my coop, 1 block away, he responded, "you're not on our grid.." WTH!! Anyone else having issues with Fresh Direct? Wanna start a petition to get them to deliver ALL OVER Kensington??????

Chikurin on Ocean Ave & Ave L does deliver to Kensington (I'm on OP & Caton). Their sushi is always fresh & incredibly affordable. Try the spicy tuna or salmon tartare - yummy!

I just wanted to say that thai tony's are officially open! Its a bit small but it's a great place for good and cheap food in the neighborhood. I went twice already and it's been open for 4 days!
